Puro Mangkunagaran, well taken care Palace (Puro=Karaton) is located in the heart of Surakarta (Solo), between Ronggowarsito, Kartini, Siswa and Teuku Umar Streets. The construction of the Puro dated back in the year of 1757 by the Junior King, Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Aryo Mangkoenagoro I (1757-1795).
            Mostly came from Majapahit epoch (1293-1478) and Mataram imperialism (1586-1755), there are magnificent collection of ancient goods and valuable arts kept in Puro Mangkunagaran. There are jewelry, golden rings, silver, crystal wears, gold dresses for dancers, collections of masks from various Indonesian parts, a series of royal portraits and book collection of classical works, leather and wooden puppets, religious statues, sets of traditional musical instrumentalities namely gamelan and the others heirloom.
Pura Mangkunagaran with typical Javanese architecture consists of two main sections: Pendapa (royal audience hall, a place where is used to welcome the guests) and Dalem (main royal audience hall) which is surrounded by the residence of family kingdom. The east part of the palace is the so called Bale Peni that is used by The Princes to stay. Meanwhile, the Princesses stay in the west part which is namely Bale Warni.
            Daily opens from 9 to 12 a.m and Sunday from 9 a.m to 1 p.m, Pura Mangkunegaran is one of recommended places to visit for you who are interested in history and culture. You will find religious and rare philosophical manuscripts in the Reksopustoko Library. Every Wednesday, you can also enjoy the performances of banquets and traditional dances accompanied by gamelan music in Pendopo. Really, you will feel the harmony of royal ambience in sacred impression.
