Kasunanan Palace

Kasunanan Palace

Awarded as The Best Destination in Indonesia 2009, Solo has glorious landmarks such as Kasunanan Palace. It is one of the most recommended tourist resorts to visit in Solo. Kasunanan Palace was constructed during the reign of King Pakubuwono II way back in the 17th century.
Before you are entering the area of Kasunanan Palace, you will notice the large square called ‘alun-alun’, one is located on the north side and the other is on the south. Shaded by the groves of leafy banyan trees, men sell kerisses, statuettes, and many other traditional handicrafts.
The main building of the palace is decorated with aristocratic architecture and luxurious ornaments, such as marble floors, gold and diamond ornaments, crystal lamps inside that now delights the eye in every corner of the complex. The palace also has an art gallery exhibiting royal heirlooms, antiques, old Hindu-Java bronzes, ancient Royal wagon and vehicles, historic significances and other invaluable objects in a genuine royal Javanese atmosphere. In the surrounding area is the legendary of Panggung Songgo Buwono, or ‘Tower of the Universe’, another site worth to visit as it is said that the tower is the meeting place of The King and The Goddess of the Sea, Nyi Roro Kidul.
You can visit this great historical place everyday except Friday starts from 9 a.m to 2 p.m.
